Brett Favre: I wouldn’t be Hall of Famer without dad
“He was the son I never had”. “He has it in him'”. My chest kind of swelled up. He had the ultimate secret to the father-son playbook. Harrison wondered why, and Moore told him, “You should have had 150”. As his face reddened, he went on to state that he would spend his entire college and pro careers trying to redeem himself from one of his poor performances as an amateur in order to make his dad proud.

In between his controversial arrival – Wolf received heat for giving up a first-round pick for him – in 1992 and his messy departure in the summer of 2008, Favre took the Packers on a roller-coaster ride of exhilarating wins, painful losses, out-of-the-blue big plays, inexplicable turnovers and personal battles ranging from his addiction to painkillers to his father’s unexpected passing the day before a game in Oakland. When Chris Berman began to announce Favre’s name at the beginning of the night Saturday, the 20,000-plus started chanting, “Go Pack Go”, the same way it did all those Sundays at Lambeau Field.
We all know where we were that night, and we all cried. “All this excitement’s got me wanting to call Ed Werder and spread the word again”.
Every Packers fan probably has one special Favre moment that they keep replaying in their mind. Nearly all of them. But I thought to myself, that’s a pretty good compliment.
“Make no mistake about it: I will be remembered as a Packer”. Throw a football into double coverage between Vikings. Isn’t that cool that I’m side-by-side with Brett Favre for eternity? Favre said. “Ultimately, the man says, ‘whatever.’ Am I right?” It’s easy to hide behind Favre at that point. It was only the second time in Hall of Fame history a wife has presented her husband. He shared that revelation with everyone in attendance, too.
Brett Favre, football’s most durable quarterback and one of its greatest passers, has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Nearly all of them have that moment that defines them. The active leader in interceptions is Drew Brees, but he’s still 131 behind Favre. Then, 10 months later his brother-in-law was killed in an ATV accident and a few days later Deanna was diagnosed with breast cancer.
A first-round draft pick in 1996, Harrison made eight Pro Bowls, was a three-time All-Pro, and missed only 18 games in 13 National Football League seasons.
“He would never tell me that”.
I know he’s still watching.
“I may wake up Sunday morning and decide he may not play”, Pagano said. “He’s different.” That’s true. And now Pace, Favre, Dungy and Greene have joined Randle and Sapp immortalized in Canton. He said he has often thanked Green for his role in his career and wished out loud that he could thank him one more time. He lives that out now with Deanna and his daughters Brittany and Breleigh.

“Never discount the importance of being a father and the statements that you make”, Favre said. “I would not be here before you today without my father”. The lesson is: We come and go very quickly. “And just as (former Steelers head) coach (Chuck) Noll had done, Denny showed me that you could win doing it that way”. I mean no disrespect to the Hall of Fame, I had dreamed of playing in the National Football League, believe me, way more than I thought about my school work. but I never thought of the Hall of Fame until that moment. Greene earned the title of best-dressed inductee Saturday night. Nearly all of them have that moment that defines them, but there are so many moments to enjoy in this life.
