“In spite of our unbelievable grief, we chose to come here to prevent other families from the same tragedy”, his father, Victor Yelchin, said in tearful remarks to reporters. “It is against nature when a parent buries his own child”. “We hope this lawsuit will teach them a lesson”.
The 27-year-old died when his vehicle struck him after rolling backwards down the steep driveway, pinning him against a brick postbox pillar and a security fence.
The parents of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin are suing the makers of a Jeep that crushed and killed him.
Movie fans were stunned in June when Star Trek Beyond star Anton Yelchin tragically died in a “freak” auto accident at only 27 years old.
In other words, the vehicle makes use of an electronic gearshift, which uses a button to change gears rather than a lever, and has led many drivers to mistakenly believe their auto is in park when it isn’t.
The confusion has resulted in vehicles rolling away unexpectedly, and has led to dozens of injuries. We want them made to know that this type of conduct – money and profits before safety – is unacceptable.
The parents of “Star Trek” actor Anton Yelchin have filed suit against Jeep manufacturer FCA US, saying the company was at fault for the death of Yelchin at age 27 in June.
In a statement, FCA says it “extends its sympathies to the Yelchin family for their tragic loss”, but notes that it has yet to be served with the lawsuit and therefore can’t comment.
Yelchin was killed by his own auto as it rolled down his driveway, according to police. The Company has not been served with a lawsuit and can not comment further at this time.
Fiat Chrysler announced in June that it would soon furnish software upgrades to address the problem in all recalled vehicles. Yelchin’s SUV was part of a global recall campaign, in a frame of which Fiat Chrysler was recalling 1.1 million vehicles – Anton’s auto planned to be recalled in April.

Fiat Chrysler has said it is speeding up its recall of the vehicle.
