Fans react as New York Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez (13) walks to the dugout after lining out during the second inning of a baseball game against the Boston Red Sox in Boston, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016.

Red Sox star David Ortiz left Wednesday night’s game against the New York Yankees in pain after fouling a pitch off his right shin.

“It would have just been fun”, Rodriguez said.

The Yankees held a press conference Sunday where Rodriguez announced he is leaving the team and the game behind. With Justin Bour’s injury lingering on longer than anticipated, Marlins’ brass may be seriously considering bringing A-Rod at the very least as a late game pinch-hitter, and at most as a stand-in at first base until Bour can return.

“I’m focusing on, this is it”, he said. I get that we are playing games. “This is it. I’m not looking beyond that”.

“This is my last day, I would hope that a couple of balls didn’t hit me in the mouth”. On Friday, the Yankees have pushed back the start time of their game with the Tampa Bay Rays from 7:10 p.m.to 7:35 to host a pregame ceremony. “My mom and the girls (his daughters) are on their way home to NY, and they’ll get a chance to watch me”.

“That’s how I’m going to remember it – the RBI”, Rodriguez said. I value pinstripes. I value this organization.

The Yankees’ other run came on Austin Romine’s solo homer to left in the third.
