Interestingly, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been named in India Green team for the Duleep Trophy, has been selected for the U.S. tour, which means he will not play the India Green’s first match against India Red from August 23-26.

The tournament will give the Test hopefuls a chance to showcase their potential ahead of the long worldwide season at home, in which India hosts New Zealand for three Tests, followed by four against England later this year.

Yuvraj and Raina have been named captains of the India Red and India Green teams in the Duleep Trophy respectively.

India have retained the bulk of the Test squad now in the Caribbean for the two T20 matches against the West Indies later this month in the United States.

KL Rahul is the only player apart from captain MS Dhoni who has been included from the squad that toured Zimbabwe.

A BCCI source didn’t rule out the possibility of the likes of Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and R Ashwin participating towards the later stages of the tournament, after they’re back from the tour of West Indies and USA.

The series will be played in the USA. Negi does not feature in the squads for the Duleep Trophy either, while Nehra is recovering from a knee surgery following the conclusion of the IPL in May.

The tournament is also important from the point of view of trying out the pink ball in Indian conditions.
