Brave New World takes place in a futuristic society that is united under a World State, which is devoid of war, poverty, or disease.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cable network has selected comic writer/playwright Grant Morrison and writer/director Brian Taylor to pen and executive produce the series; formerly, Extant/Dante’s Peak writer Les Bohem had been attached to adapt, but they’ve since clearly replaced him. Humans are given mind-altering drugs, free sex and rampant consumerism are the order of the day, and people no longer reproduce but are genetically engineered in “hatcheries”.

The novel has become a beloved classic since it was first published in 1932; in 1999, the Modern Library ranked Brave New World fifth on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. The duo will also serve as executive producers, along with Amblin Television co-presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.

But that’s not the only thing on which Morrison and Taylor are teaming up!

Second, SyFy will produce an adaptation of Morrison’s graphic novel Happy! The cabler has ordered a script for the project co-created with artist Darick Robertson. Morrison and Taylor have already co-written a pilot, which Taylor may also direct.

Described as a “grimy black comedy”, “Happy!” follows Nick Sax, a drunk, corrupt, ex-cop-turned-hit-man who is a bit down on his luck when a tiny, imaginary, blue winged horse named Happy comes into his life and changes it forever. After a hit goes wrong, Nick has a bullet in his side, both the cops and the mob on his trail, and a monstrous killer in a Santa Claus suit on the loose. Syfy has anthology Channel Zero due in October and Incorporated set for the fall.
