Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri is not optimistic that his side will retain their Premier League crown.

It used to be the private domain of the so-called top four teams, but now you have smaller teams looking to sign high-class players because they see a chance of breaking into the Champions League places. Ranieri said that last season the spirit and hard work of the players helped Leicester achieve something magical.
“The big teams are ready to fight for the title and we are ready to defend our title”, he said. “They can’t permit to lose the title for the second year”.
Ranieri said the same bookmakers who placed Leicester as 5,000-1 outsiders last season should give punters odds of 6,000-1 this time – because all the usual challengers will be back.
With the former Chelsea manager replacing Nigel Pearson at the start of the season, many tipped Leicester to be among the three clubs relegated, but they stunned everyone in leading the way throughout 2016 and wrapping up the championship with three games to spare. “I am very happy and proud that I will be part of it for years to come”, he added. They lost one season – and in the life of those big teams that can happen – but altogether it only happens once in a lifetime.

Key players including goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, defender Wes Morgan and prolific striker Jamie Vardy have also extended their contracts with the club who begin their title defence with a trip to promoted Hull City on Saturday.
