Wenger: My Arsenal Stay Depends On Results

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City, while Liverpool were eighth in their first campaign under Jurgen Klopp.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the Valencia centre-half Shkodran Mustafi, and the two clubs are believed to be now holding talks over the 24-year-old’s future.

“We keep that internally”. That along with them being away from home is going to make things tough for them so I think they will lose here but with two weak defences, anything could happen so I am going to stay away from betting on the outright result. The Daily Mirror’s Neil McLeman reported Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette as a target for Arsenal, while L’Equipe (h/t beIN Sports’ Matt Spiro) had done the same with Riyad Mahrez.

Whether Wenger can find a “top, top level” player before the window slams shut remains to be seen but it’s clear he needs to add to his squad to compete with both Manchester clubs for the league title this season.

“We’ve had two unexpected injuries with Mertesacker and Gabriel, and Koscielny came back very late so we are in a hard position for Sunday’s game against Liverpool”, Wenger said.

“He’s ruptured his ankle ligaments and we thought it could be four months but it’s not that long”. Manchester City’s Jason Denayer has also been linked.

The Gunners boss insists that his players have prepared well during pre-season, and says expectations are high among the group to achieve something in 2016/17.

Arsene Wenger’s warned Arsenal fans that he will only buy a striker if a top quality forward becomes available and says he’s instead focused on securing a defender. Then you go outside and they’re high because you’re English.

The Manchester clubs have spent a combined 322 million pounds ($417 million) in the transfer market, more than 40 percent of the league’s total outlay since May, but Arsenal’s only notable arrival is 30 million pound Granit Xhaka. “We have done what we wanted and want to do more”.

Because with the Emirates Stadium outfit now boasting enough sums of money to sign some of the players their rivals have, why would you choose to not invest more freely?
