Fire crews battle blaze at power plant northeast of Detroit

No residential evacuations were ordered, but roads in the area were closed and traffic was detoured away from the plant.

Crews from throughout the county are battling a fire at a DTE Energy facility after an explosion Thursday evening in East China Township where some workers are unaccounted for. They report everyone is accounted for at this time and there has been no injuries.

Crews worked through the night and the fire was out Friday morning, DTE said.

DTE spokesman Pete Ternes says in an email the utility plans a statement with an update later in the morning. St Clair and Marine City first responders are on site and are working to contain the fire.

Fire crews are expected to work overnight to extinguish a blaze at a power plant along the St. Clair River, northeast of Detroit. The St. Clair Fire Department said Friday morning that crews went into the building overnight to look for hot spots and remained at the plant, located along the US border with Canada. There was no immediate word about whether anyone had been injured.

A DTE Energy spokesperson said that the cause is believed to be an electrical generation unit that caught fire.
