Growing pains are expected for a player that has little National Football League experience but if he wants a shot to make the roster, Bausby’s reaction time and overall coverage ability needs to improve in the next few weeks. That said, Hoyer still finished 7-of-10 for 81 yards despite being under constant pressure with nearly no protection in front of him. Brian Hoyer threw for 81 yards in the second period but was sacked three times. One of the sacks was by a blitzing T.J. Ward for a nine-yard loss. Considering the importance of the running back battle, Thursday was somewhat of a lost game as there won’t be much valuable film to evaluate in the backfield.
The Bears came out of the game relatively healthy.
Whitehair was fine at left guard where he has been working with the starters for most of camp, but he moved to center when the second-team offense took the field and it didn’t go so well.
Hall finished the game with a team-high five combined tackles and two PBUs.
“This is the year I want to make plays and stuff”, he said.
A lot of people forget Sanchez went to the AFC Championship Game in back to back years and that was with a defense that isn’t as good as the one he is playing with now. But the coaching staff undoubtedly knew he would. With the Bears offensive line in flux, and the season-ending injury to Hroniss Grasu, they need to have a plan in place not only for each starting position, but for the backups and third-stringers as well.
Following the 22-0 beat down of the Bears, coach Gary Kubiak remained mum on whether he’s leaning one way or another in his choice for Week 1. Sanchez was under center when the game opened in the Windy City. Fangio sent safety Adrian Amos and linebacker Danny Trevathan on a blitz and Trevathan nearly sacked Sanchez. Callahan made a nice play on the next drive, however, coming off his man to deflect a pass that linebacker Jerrell Freeman intercepted.
Broncos: Cody Latimer, challenging Bennie Fowler for the third receiver spot, caught seven passes for 82 yards. On a positive note, Chris Prosinski blocked a field goal attempt, and the Broncos missed another attempt. Both teams’ starters, as expected, played a limited number of snaps before handing it off to the backups for the rest of the game. Both Cutler and Fox downplayed the Broncos’ approach after the game, but it did seem to have the Bears on their heels a little bit.
The Chicago Bears kicked off their preseason this week, and it wasn’t pretty to watch.
