Hostess launches “Deep Fried Twinkies” as first frozen treat

Deep Fried Twinkies could be as close as your freezer as Hostess brands making a first move into frozen food.

The delicacy once reserved as a once-a-year treat during state fairs (and cardiologists were thankful for that) are coming to Walmart.

It’s the first time Hostess has delved into frozen foods. After that, they will be available at other stores.

There are 69 Walmarts in Minnesota to get the snack during the three month exclusivity period, but if you want the real deal and skip the cooking process, Spaghetti Eddie’s will have their own deep fried Twinkies with toppings at the Minnesota State Fair.

This Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, photo, shows boxes of Twinkies in the freezer of Associated Press reporter Anne D’Innocenzio in NY.

According to The Associated Press, the traditional cream-filled Twinkie is coated with a cake funnel batter, frozen and packaged.

One Deep Fried Twinkie contains 220 calories, nine grams of fat and 16 grams of sugar.

WORKING IT OFF: A person who weighs about 150 pounds would need to run for 20 minutes at 10 miles per hour, take a 40-minute spin class or do a 50-minute bike ride, says Amy Gorin, a Jersey City, New Jersey-based registered dietitian-nutritionist.

To achieve that state-fair taste, you’ll need to finish off the treat in a frying pan or oven before digging in.
