“The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. Combing operations are on”. They have been identified as Kishori Teli and Rajesh Shah. Assam witnessed a series of attack earlier this month, when terrorists hurled up a grenade and took to open-firing in a crowded market in Kokrajhar town in Assam that killed 13 people and injured many. Ulfa (I) insurgents have in the past attacked Hindi Speakers in upper Assam, particularly in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh district. Police say the faction have lost support in recent times, with group members leaning towards terrorism.

Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed and security measures tightened in the district, officials said.

Suspected ULFA-I militants yesterday exploded an improvised explosive devise (IED) in a drain near a tea garden in Philobari but none was injured.
