A JetBlue flight bound for Sacramento from Boston encountered severe turbulence Thursday that sent objects, passengers, and flight attendants flying through the cabin, resulting in 24 people needing treatment for injuries. JetBlue confirmed in an emailed statement that 22 passengers and two crew members were transported to a local hospital in Rapid City for evaluation.
JetBlue Flight 429 took off from Logan International Airport at 5.25 pm enroute to Sacramento.
A JetBlue spokesperson said that the cause of the turbulence had not yet been determined, but that it was being looked into. You could tell there were storm clouds outside. “It was just normal – if you fly a lot…it just kind of shakes and then it’s okay”, one passenger of Flight 429 told South Dakota Public Broadcasting Station 429. Whoa. And then right after that there was a drop.
According to Lee, the sudden drop in altitude was what caused all of the injuries.
Passengers took to social media to describe the turbulence, saying people were flying out of their seats and the plane plummeted at one point.
Passenger Rhonda Renee tweeted an image of the woman flight attendant being helped off the plane. His laptop nearly hit the ceiling and several other passengers hit their heads, including a flight attendant in the galley during the incident.

Some unlucky people not wearing their seatbelts were reportedly jolted out of their seats and launched head-first into the overhead compartment.
