American underdog Maya DiRado unseated swimming superwoman Katinka Hosszu in a dramatic upset at the Olympic Aquatics Center on Friday night. She notched bronze in the 200 individual medley and silver in the 400 individual medley, as well as gold as a part of Team USA’s first-place 4×200 freestyle relay.
Katie Ledecky delivered another dominating performance at the Rio Games, handily breaking the world record in the 800 freestyle Friday.
DiRado won her fourth medal of the week.
Franklin, who holds the world record in the 200 back, did not qualify for the final.
A stunner at the Rio Olympics: Michael Phelps has been beaten.
She is competing in the 400-meter and 200-meter medley, and 200 meter backstroke at the games. “Then I realized that two hours ago that I had just done my last prelim swim too”. It was clear from her resilience that Madeline was not going to quit, and her incredible finish proves that no race is over until you touch that wall. DiRado’s mother Marit is an oncology nurse who volunteered to help victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and also went to Africa to help the Ebola virus patients.
Knowing that I’m a child of God and that his love for me is determined by nothing I can achieve or do on my own has given me a quiet confidence.
