Duffy throws complete game, Royals beat White Sox 2-1

Danny Duffy pitched his first complete game to win his eighth straight decision.

Lorenzo Cain’s night was not going the way he wanted. Drew Butera, career OPS.539, hit seventh.

“I couldn’t say anything”, Abreu said Tuesday through a Sox interpreter. I came back, I was fine. “It’s a very good feeling”. The Royals are 5-1 in Duffys last 6 starts vs. He struck out six and didn’t walk anyone.

Not Don Cooper – appropriately renamed #Done Cooper after blowing two saves in the loss to KC, a heartbreaking loss pushing the Sox to the brink of the AL Wild Card race – has a point here.

“What a insane game that was”, Gee said. “I was in the dugout the whole game”.

White Sox closer David Robertson’s sixth blown save in the 11th inning cost Chicago a victory a few innings later.

And then there is the Rally Mantis, the spindly, green-legged creature which appeared in the Royals’ dugout on Saturday afternoon, found a home on the hat of outfielder Billy Burns and begat two victories before a day off on Monday.

Jarrod Dyson led off the 13th inning with a triple, but the Royals failed to get him home.

“I’m stoked”, Duffy said on getting his first complete game. It doesn’t take much to overcome those batters, and for an excruciating five innings, the White Sox’ relatively weak bullpen did. Fourteen pitchers combined to throw 424 pitches. With two outs, the Sox have scored 190 of their 451 runs and hit 41 of their 114 home runs. “Hopefully we could have gotten a little momentum out of that”. OF Jason Coats was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. First baseman Eric Hosmer pushed Kansas City ahead with a soft single into shallow left field. The Royals have scored 15 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in 10 of their last 13 games.

“They’ve been tough on us, especially at this place”, Sale said. “That’s one of the games you try to give fight all the game”. He started 24 of the 30 contests in which he appeared a year ago and went 7-8 with his first career save and a 2.97 ERA. We just try to get quick outs, try to throw a good quality pitch. It was a risky move to try for three, but Adam Eaton provided the opportunity with a bad angle, and Cuthbert just beat the relay.

He was pulled after Orlando’s double in the eighth inning.

Gonzalez felt it on his first pitch of the second inning to Salvador Perez.

In what quickly became a lost season for the Chicago White Sox, parody Twitter accounts mocking every Robin Ventura gaffe and Chris Sale tirade has made following the team still somewhat bearable.

Orlando had two outfield assists.

The Royals now hit the road for a six-game trip through Minnesota and Detroit.
