She was in town visiting her parents and was scheduled to return home to New York City later that day.

Authorities don’t know if the attack was random and are asking the public to stay alert and contact them if they see anything unusual.

“We have a disgusting set of facts, a terrible circumstance here right now”, Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr said, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

Massachusetts State Police have launched an anonymous tip line looking for clues in the case of a woman killed after she went for a walk along a country road in her hometown.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. told reporters yesterday a dedicated tip line police set up for the investigation has been flooded with calls – launching investigators to follow up on hundreds of leads.

Marcotte grew up in nearby Leominster, attended the Bancroft School in Worcester and graduated from Boston University in 2011.

Last week, Karina Vetrano was strangled to death while running in Queen, New York.

“We are concerned about the safety of our town residents and visitors that enter our town”, Princeton Police Chief Michele Powers said at a Monday press conference.

The 27-year-old Marcotte was an account manager for Google in NY. She worked at two MA marketing companies before moving to NY.

Police say her body had been burned. “A lot of our residents do go up there to hike and run and frequent the area around Mount Wachusett and the surrounding roads, so we’ve been trying to urge people to do their due diligence”.

Law-enforcement officials have released few details about the cause of death or state in which Marcotte was found. The New York Daily News reported, it was being investigated whether Vanessa Marcotte had been raped before set on fire.

Residents said, Princeton used to be very quiet and safe before Marcotte’s incident. “Her routine was to take a jog around the block before she went back to New York”, Leroux said.
