Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday that a delegation from the US Justice Department would visit Turkey on August 23-24 to discuss the extradition of cleric Fetullah Gulen who is accused of being responsible for the coup.

“The U.S. can not ignore our demand, it is crystal clear that FETÖ [Fethullahist Terrorist Organization] is behind the failed coup”, said Yıldırım, adding that he and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chose to “fight till death” on the night of the coup attempt. Gulen denies any involvement in the attempted putsch in which 240 people were killed.

Addressing senior media figures at Çankaya Palace, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said the United States attitude over the coup attempt had a positive shift as it started to take some action.

Turkey nearly immediately increased pressure for the extradition from the United States of Gulen, a former ally of Erdogan who runs an influential network of worldwide schools outside Turkey. A Turkish court on Friday issued an arrest warrant in absentia for USA -based preacher Fetullah Gulen on charges of leading the deadly July 15 coup attempt by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.
