Hatch police officer killed during traffic stop; 3 arrested

A police officer in Hatch, New Mexico, was shot and killed Friday, leading to a massive manhunt that eventually ended with three suspects in custody, CBS affiliate KRQE reported.

According KRQE News 13’s partners at KVIA, investigators now confirm all three suspects are in custody.

County sheriff’s officials say one suspect was caught right away and the other two fled in a vehicle. The owner is also now in hospital.

“I can tell you that the Hatch Police Department is eight officers strong”. The assisting officer alerted dispatch to an “officer down” at 3:42 p.m. The suspect then drove to a residence, and barricaded himself in the vehicle before surrendering to police.

The two other suspects were captured before 7 p.m.in the 2400 block of Rincon.
