Militants attack Army convoy in Shopian, one jawan injured

At least 11 people were injured in a grenade explosion in a mosque compound in Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.

Militants opened fire on a private vehicle hired by army for patrolling at Theorno village in Shopian, resulting in injuries to one soldier of Army’s 44 RR, a police official said.

AFP adds: Indian soldiers Tuesday killed two suspected freedom fighters in Held Kashmir after police and troops battled scores of stone-throwing residents who were trying to help the rebels escape, police said.

“The attack was carried out by our militants when Indian army tried to cordon an area in the Shopian”.

Meanwhile a grenade exploded at the Tuesday’s encounter site in the orchards in Ratnipora Pulwama.

“One jawan made the supreme sacrifice while two others were injured in the operation against militants in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district”, an army official said here. In another incident, an Indian army man was injured in an attack at Watourpora Imamsahab in the town. Following the ambush, a massive manhunt has been launched to track the militants. “The gunbattle was going on when the last reports came in”, he said.
