No arrests have been made in the case, which comes a week after Queens, New York jogger Karina Vetrano, 30, was discovered in the marsh near her home in the Howard Beach section of the borough.
Early said he met with Marcotte’s family Tuesday. She was found dead just over 8 p.m. Sunday evening on the same street of her mother’s home.
Another resident of Princeton, Massachusetts told reporters on how police knocked on her door past midnight to ask whether she saw or heard anything unusual. In a statement Monday, Google said it is “deeply shocked and saddened”. The 27-year-old Google employee’s body was found hours after she went missing, without clothes and partially burned.
“We are concerned about the safety of our town residents and visitors that enter our town”, Princeton Police Chief Michele Powers told The Associated Press.
At Vetrano’s funeral, her mother, Cathy, said, “My daughter is a force to be reckoned with”, the Daily News reported.
Marcotte was on a weekend visit to her family, when she headed out for a jog early Sunday afternoon and, tragically, never returned. The town of 3,500 is located about 40 miles west of Boston.
Police officials said on Monday they did not know whether her killing was a random act.
Marcotte worked as an account manager at Google in New York City. An autopsy was conducted this morning, Early said.
When she didn’t return home by nearly 4 p.m., her family contacted the Princeton police. Her body was found about seven hours later.
“We’re so terribly sad for her family and friends”, declared Boston University spokesperson Colin Riley.
MA police say there’s no sign Vetrano and Marcotte’s murders are linked.
Police who are investigating Marcotte’s murder believe the perpetrator may have attempted to burn the body after committing the unthinkable crimes to the young woman.
Marcotte was a 2011 graduate of Boston University and was an avid runner, according to the Telegram & Gazette.

MA law enforcement officials believe that Marcotte’s death likely took place between 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon and are asking anyone who might have seen anything suspicious during that time period to contact police.
