Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh are struggling to break the logjam and restore normalcy in the strife-torn Valley with little success so far.
India will also begin to focus on liberating the region from Pakistan, sources said.
“The root cause of unrest in Kashmir is cross-border terrorism which is being encouraged by our neighboring country”, the rightwing Hindu nationalist premier said. He also used the platform to hit out at Pakistan for its screwed human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and Balochistan and said it will have to answer to global community for the atrocities it was committing there.
“The time has come to expose Pakistan’s brutalities on the people of Balochistan and Pak-occupied Kashmir (PoK)”, said Prime Minister Modi said on Friday as the government launched a fresh offensive against Islamabad for igniting the latest unrest in Kashmir.
One, there will be no lowering of guard as far as security is concerned.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh echoed the sentiment in the all-party meet.
But Modi maintained a tough line on Friday, telling party leaders in New Delhi that now was not the time to send negotiators and that there must be no compromise on national security.
Giving a fresh twist to New Delhi’s Pakistan line, Modi went a step further when he asked the external affairs ministry to contact expatriates from PoK living in other countries to expose Pakistan’s atrocities in PoK before the global community.
It had also asked the government to bring in a suitable mechanism to ensure that such foreign nationals are not forced to remain in jails as courts are being frequently flooded with complaints about Pakistani nationals being incarcerated in jails despite having served their sentence.
“We will be satisfied only when the ground situation improves and the government takes steps”, said the Congress’s Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had criticised PM Modi for making his first comments on the Kashmir crisis at a rally in Madhya Pradesh and not in parliament. It was also suggested that an all-party delegation should visit Kashmir to assess the situation but the government did not make commitments regarding any of their demands. Jaitley said that these guns have been in use since 2010 and that an expert committee was looking at the issue.

The Kashmir region is divided between India and Pakistan but both claim the territory in full. Protests have erupted against Indian rule for decades, and analysts said Modi’s government appeared short of ideas on how to pacify the protesters. “The government and the separatists are speaking in completely divergent voices”.
