Great Britain’s Jazmin Carlin has won a silver medal in the women’s 800 metres freestyle at the Rio Olympics. Until now, they had won a medal in every Olympics tournament since 1996.

Schooling thwarted Phelps’ attempt to become the first Olympic athlete to take four consecutive gold medals in two different events.

“I had a lot of fun tonight”, Ledecky said.

The three-time defending-champion USA women’s soccer team was ousted by Sweden on penalties 4-3 following a 1-1 draw in the quarterfinals.

RIO DE JANEIRO-It turns out Michael Phelps and Katinka Hosszu are human after all, though Katie Ledecky and Anthony Ervin may not be.

Phelps now owns the record for most medals (27) and most golds (22) in Olympics history. She won by almost 12 seconds.

Her dominant performance in Rio also included silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay. At the time, Washington was trailing by four runs.

She now holds the 13 best times over the distance, and is the first teenager ever to defend a swimming Olympic title.

Afterward, Hope Solo, the American goalkeeper, was castigated for calling the Swedish team “cowards”. She said that Meyer had sent her a video message of support via her mother before the race.

So it was odd to see him, after what he insists was his final individual race as an Olympian, crowding onto a medal stand with two other swimmers.

Dirado pipped Hosszu by six-hundredths of a second after the Hungarian had appeared to be on her way to victory to add to those in the 100m backstroke and the 200m and 400m individual medleys. The U.S., looking to pull away, couldn’t manage a single point in the final 2:11 – the game was still in question up until Bogdan Bogdanovic missed a three-pointer on the final play of the game.

Kevin Durant grabbed the rebound to keep the Americans unbeaten 48 hours after they barely escaped against Australia.

DiRado couldn’t believe what she had done in her one and only Olympics.

– A Chinese swimmer, Polish weightlifter and Bulgarian steeplechaser have been sanctioned for doping offenses at the Olympics.

The Egyptian backed away and shook his head when Sasson extended his hand. Taking bronze was Boglarka Kapas of Hungary, who finished in 8:16.37. She won her first gold medal at age 15 with a time 10 seconds slower than August 12. With a gnarly gash over his left eye, Hernandez had blurred vision and needed stitches.

Ervin returned to make the American team in 2012, but failed to win a medal in London.
