Barry Bonds got ejected in a game against the Giants

The Marlins’ hitting coach, watching his team offensively struggle through a 1-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, left his regular spot near the top step of the Miami dugout for some words with home-plate umpire Cory Blaser.

“That was insane, right?”

Now it s a claim that Crawford – and only four other players in major league history – can claim, too. “It’s not really a baseball school”.

While he did pitch decently for the majority of the game, Bruce Bochy didn’t seem to have the utmost confidence in Samardzija as he was removed in favor of Will Smith after walking two in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Crawford, who went 9 for 16 in the series to hike his average to.277, pulled a 3-2 changeup from David Phelps over the fence.

Oscar Hernandez hit his first major league homer in the 12th inning, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks over the New York Mets 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Gio Gonzalez (8-9) allowed four runs and seven hits, including a home run by Francisco Lindor, and struck out five in five-plus innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked three.

The lone run came on Brandon Crawford’s solo homer, and it held up through some tense moments. “I was telling myself not to walk (Crawford). I threw it down the middle of the plate, and he timed it up”.

They’re also 2-5 in his last seven starts when he’s coming off four days of rest and have dropped five of his last six outings after allowing two runs or less in their pervious game as a team.

“I don’t think it’s a surprise he had a good series”, Phelps said.

Indeed, Crawford made his first All-Star Game a year ago, when he also won a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger award. Bochy said. This time of year, you re tied for first, jeez, you take that. “We needed a shot in the arm, and he gave it to us”. But Miami bunched two hits in an inning only once – in the second – and Derek Dietrich was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double. Entering this week, they had gone 0-6-1 in series. The Marlins were livid, but the inning was over.

Frustration by Miami peaked in the sixth inning, when Bonds was ejected for arguing after pinch hitter Chris Johnson was called out on strikes with two on to end the threat. “That’s baseball. Human error is part of the game”.

Miami closed the series with no runs in its final 17 innings and just two in 25 frames. The Dodgers had caught them after being behind by as many as eight games; the deficit was 6 ½ at the All-Star break.

The Giants, of course, credited their pitching instead of faulting Miami’s offense. Giants C Buster Posey returned to the lineup after injuring a finger while sliding on Monday.
