The 2016 Summer Olympics are underway with the finest athletes from around the world trying to claim the gold in Rio.

Phelps is looking for his fourth gold medal in the 100m butterfly.

Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes said in a statement that interim President Michel Temer had declared a day of national mourning following the death of the military policeman “in consideration for the high level of excellence and the importance of the work carried out by those dedicated to guaranteeing the security of the Olympic Games”.

The United States women’s soccer team was eliminated by Sweden in the quarterfinals, a startling loss for the four-time Olympic champions that left Hope Solo without a shot at gold but with plenty of bitterness.

Having led by 0.01 seconds at half-way, and in third place after the breaststroke, Lochte struggled on the final freestyle lap and finished without an Olympic medal for the first time in the event.

Kuster believes the proper lane assignment will help her put up a much better time than she would have swimming against much-slower swimmers, even though she’s got little chance of advancing out of the preliminaries either way. Ledecky’s time was almost seven seconds faster than anyone else. She’s seeking to complete a sweep of the 200, 400 and 800 freestyles for the first time since the 1968 Mexico City Games. Hilary Caldwell of Canada had the second quickest time of 2:07.40.

As of Phelps taking home the silver on Friday, the United States’ medal total stands at 46. Along with her individual golds, Ledecky also topped the podium with the 4×200 free relay.

Track and field starts Friday and includes preliminaries for the women in the 100 meter.

Five sprinters at Rio have joined the small list of women to crack the 10.8-second mark: Elaine Thompson of Jamaica, Murielle Ahoure of the Ivory Coast and American teammates English Gardner, Tianna Bartoletta and Tori Bowie.

Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the two-time defending Olympic champion, had the fastest time in qualifiers Friday night. He was the first athlete to run the event in under 1 minutes 41 seconds. She first went pro in February 2009 at the age of 14. “We said when we get there, we’re going to medal”, Hernandez said.

The U.S. women, meanwhile, take on Canada.

At 11:10 a.m., Tirunesh Dibaba seeks another medal in the 10,000.

For now he just needs a break.

Phelps went on to win not one but six gold medals, and two bronze, at the Athens Olympics, and the 31-year-old’s career has only continued to skyrocket since then.

The dominating United States teams are back on the court. And at 7 p.m., Chaim Schalk and Ben Saxton play the Netherlands’ Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen.

The U.S. men, who play Serbia on Friday, are still the team to beat. Carmelo Anthony scored 31 points on the night he became the US men’s Olympic career scoring leader. The bronze medal match kicks off at 3 p.m. CT. And, at 10:35 p.m., Brazil faces Italy.

Men’s quarterfinals are underway a day after Sweden’s striking upset against the USA women in penalty kicks.

The round of 16 continues for both men and women the day after defending champions Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross took on Marta Menegatti and Laura Giombini of Italy in the late match. The Aussies and Brazilians met at the Women’s World Cup a year ago, and it was Australia that advanced by beating Marta and Co.
