Seth Rogen Pranked New York Shoppers As A Real-Life Talking Melon
If projections hold, Sausage Party will trounce Disney’s CG/live-action hybrid Pete’s Dragon. But be warned – it looks like a kids’ movie, but it’s definitely not.

Sausage Party, directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, is centered on grocery store food like hot dogs and follows one fearless sausage who strives to discover the truth about his existence. Frank (Seth Rogen) the sausage, Brenda (Kristen Wiig) the hot dog bun, Teresa Taco (Salma Hayek) and Sammy Bagel Jr. Contributors to the films sound include Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek.
The other major element of Sausage Party that doesn’t work is the bad guy, who’s a douche-literally. It’s a fun cast of characters in a typical “find our way back’ adventure, but with more swearing and overt attempts to be offensive”. The credits roll just as the novelty has completely run its course, but not before the food orgy.
I think I’m going vegetarian. You can probably chalk this up to the longer production time, a Team Coco joke wouldn’t really land today the same way it might have in 2010. Suicide Squad is expected to win the box office pretty handily, with Sausage Party estimated to open in the $20 million range, right in line with previous Rogen films Neighbors 2 and This Is The End.
What would you do if confronted with a talking melon?
The film’s world is a grocery store, where all of the food items stay in their packages and dream of “the great beyond” (outside the store) where they’ll one day be taken by “the gods” (the store’s human customers); they’re all unaware that one day they’ll be cooked and eaten. It turns out it was simply because the film was animated. Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon directed Sausage Party, which audiences gave a B CinemaScore despite strong reviews from critics.
Sausage Party basically boils down to a 90 minute version of that joke your uncle does at every BBQ where he takes a wiener off the grill and pretends it’s his wang.
