A father whose 6-month-old baby died after being left in a auto all day outside a San Antonio-area Wal-Mart on Friday said he forgot to drop off the boy at day care.

Helotes is about 30 minutes northwest of San Antonio.
The medical examiner’s office says Dillon was 6 months old. Helotes police had initially said the infant was 7 months old.
Helotes police say that Martinez was in the vehicle when his father drove to work at the Wal-Mart near Bandera and Loop 1604 on Friday morning.
A witness noticed the baby in the vehicle around 3:09 p.m. and called 911 to report the situation to police.
A cause of death had not yet been determined.
No charges have been filed, and the identities of the father and boy have not been released. The change makes it easier for drivers to forget children since they’re strapped in the back, Fennell said. The worst year was 2010, with 49, according to both a count by Fennell and Jan Null, a research meteorologist at San Jose State University, who also tracks numbers.
