“The American vice president is expected.to come to Turkey, on August 24 with the American delegation”, Binali Yildirim told a group of journalists, according to the website of TV channel CNN Turk.
He said that since the coup attempt on 15-16 July, 76,597 civil servants had been suspended over links to the coup attempt, and 4,897 had been dismissed from their posts, bringing the total number to 81,974.
Yildirim said a US technical team would visit Turkey on August 22 to discuss legal issues relating to the possible extradition, according to Anadolu.
According to the news agency Anadolu State, the request of the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor’s Office says that the latter has found that the coup was orchestrated by Mr. Gülen and seeks temporary arrest of the Imam pending formal submission of a request for extradition.
“While in Ankara, the Vice President will meet with President Erdogan and Prime Minister Yildirim to discuss the U.S. -Turkey relationship and a range of issues of importance to both nations”, said a press release from the White House.
Since then, Turkey has sent several documents to the United States which Ankara claims proves that Gulen was involved.
The Istanbul chief prosecutor wrote to USA authorities asking for Gulen’s detention, CNN Turk said.
More than 240 people were killed in the violent coup attempt by a rogue faction in the Turkish military using fighter jets, helicopters and tanks. -Turkish relations is dependent on the United States cooperating with their request to extradite Gulen.
Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgic, in a statement, said the comments by Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein were unacceptable. He has been one of the Obama administration’s key interlocutors with Turkey’s government, speaking frequently with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
