One of the victims was the pilot of the plane and he has been identified as William C. Hamerstadt, 64, of Carmel, Ind.

The small, private plane was attempting to land when it overshot the runway and pulled back up too late, crashing into nearby trees.

The plane, 1969 Beech 95-B5As5 twin-engine, fixed-wing aircraft was attempting to land at the Shannon Airplane touched down midway down the runway and then attempted to execute a “go-around”, according to state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

As the plane attempted to turn and climb, it appeared to have stalled as it made it beyond the railroad tracks at the end of the airport property. Their remains will be “transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for positive identification”.

Emma’s twin brother stayed at home in Shelbyville, Indiana, because he had football and basketball practice, he said.

Her older brother Luke Borinstein was a Triton Central graduate and a student at Wabash College.

Joseph Borinstein said the family had chartered the plane to fly to Virginia, where his eldest grandson Drew is a senior at Virginia Military Institute.

“When I heard there was a fire, it was such a hot day, I was hoping it was just a brush fire”, Aquino told the wire service. “It looked so bad the way the plane had landed”.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.

Shari Acree, who was also on the train, said she saw white smoke and the crash.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the crash and authorities have opened an investigation, Geller said.
