HBO has confirmed that “very preliminary discussions” have taken place over the resurrection of the series, off the back of a report that sprung up on Wednesday about a possible Deadwood feature film.

“Come on HBO”, he wrote. Fans of the series know exactly what word is being referred to here and there might be some more of it in our future.

Here is a report that we certainly did not envision happening for you tonight: It is starting to look as though HBO may be able to wrap up “Deadwood” in a way that it was always intended.

Despite Dillahunt’s overture, fans of the Emmy-winning drama shouldn’t saddle up for the pic just yet.

There have been rumors for years that “Deadwood” would be resurrected for a movie to finish out the story that never got an ending after the show was cancelled in 2006. Creator David Milch was also reportedly offered a shorter fourth season of the series but allegedly rejected the idea.

The drama co-starred Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, and Brad Douriff, and is widely considered to be one of HBO’s best earlier series alongside “The Wire” and “The Sopranos”.
