CBS’s Colbert to go live after presidential debates

Colbert’s live Late Show broadcasts during the recent Republican and Democratic National Conventions earned stronger ratings and generated buzz for the franchise that’s struggling to goose its ratings.

Stephen Colbert is again jumping into politics, with live episodes of CBS’s The Late Show planned after three scheduled debates involving the presidential tickets.

The majority of critics say Colbert’s live coverage of the conventions was the boost the late night host needed and further suggested the episodes were some of his best since taking over the “Late Show” gig.

Nevins noted that Colbert has the night off from his The Late Show role on CBS.

Nevins forgot to mention that Colbert already owned election-cycle skewering, sharing with Jon Stewart (who is now an EP on Colbert’s CBS show) in their capacity as former hosts/creators of Comedy Central’s groundbreaking The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

“‘The Circus’ has way more impact than we expected”, Nevins said. “We want them to watch Showtime on election night”, Nevins said during his executive session, pointing out how fun it would be for viewers to watch Colbert announce which candidate won each state, instead of traditional news anchors. “We want to have stuff we feel is culturally relevant”.
