New Labour Party members in High Court battle against leadership vote block

The leadership contest has been soured by reports of bullying and intimidation with the Wallasey Labour Party suspended pending an investigation.

In the ten months since the last leadership election, we have defeated the Tories many times…

Labour, which emerged in the early 20th century from the trade union movement, moved to the centre under former prime minister Tony Blair, who won three successive elections.

Similarly, if a Corbyn-led faction split from the rest of the party, both groups would get 33 per cent of the vote, with 14 per cent supporting the separatists, and 19 per cent backing the Labour remainder. Those found to be anti-semitic should be expelled and “never come back”, he said.

He added: “Maybe some of the reason Jeremy hasn’t worked so hard, in my view, at holding together the Labour Party, is that he doesn’t see that as important”.

He also hit out at criticisms of the 172 Labour MPs who voted no confidence in Mr Corbyn’s leadership, saying: “They are not red Tories”.

Mr Corbyn spoke after ally and shadow chancellor John McDonnell accused Mr Smith of trying to “blackmail” the party by threatening to split it if he loses the September 24 poll.

The Labour Party and its general secretary, Iain McNicol, say the rules permit the July 12 freeze date and there has been no contractual breach or misrepresentation. Many Essex workers fear redundancy following Brexit; pockets of our communities are moving towards becoming some of the most economically deprived in the country and we know that our young people are not reaching their full potential.

A real one. One that has been missing in action for decades but which can be reborn under the stewardship of Jeremy Corbyn.

“So why did you resign?”

One of the protesters, Bobby Smith, spoke to LBC News and said they were not sure how long they would stay, but wanted to stay up there until the Labour leader addressed their concerns.

Addressing Mr Smith, Mr Corbyn said: “What I don’t understand is how you can complain about disunity in the party when you and others are the ones who resigned from the shadow cabinet at the very point when we could have taken it to them”.

And this divisive PLP behaviour is seen by many to be the main reason for Labour’s now dismal polling results.

“There are some on the hard left of the party like McDonnell, and some on the right of the party, who have become fatalistic about that”. This is a man who has demonstrated a true interest in party unity.

He also argued that when the members joined, the Labour website and other communications said they would be “a key part of the team”, and thus eligible to vote in any leadership election.

Corbyn just demolished Smith’s leadership logic with one perfect comeback
