She also won the 400m individual medley in world-record time on Saturday, before winning 100m backstroke gold on Monday.

Double Olympic gold medallist Katinka Hosszu of Hungary was a no-show for this morning’s 200 fly prelims, as she’s chosen to focus all her energy on the 200 IM final tonight.

Since 1992 this is the first time a Hungarian athlete won two gold medals during the Olympic Games.

Ledecky earned a gold medal in the 200-meter freestyle, and DiRado captured the bronze in the 200-meter individual medley.

She was banned between October 2013 and February 2015 after testing positive for traces of the anabolic steroid DHEA, and also briefly suspended after testing positive for meldonium this year.

She will try to become just the second female in Olympic history to win the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle in the same Games (Debbie Meyer, 1968).

“I think you’re going to see a lot of people speaking up more”, the all-time highest Olympic medal victor said.

Efimova only learned last Friday that she could compete, and officials were forced to reissue the start lists to include her for the breaststroke events. The couple met as students at the University of Southern California. Hosszu may face a challenge from Britain’s Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, American Madeline Dirado and Australia’s London 2012 bronze medalist Alicia Coutts.

She lowered the Olympic record racing for gold, stopping the clock at two minutes, 6.58 seconds.

Nicknamed “The Iron Lady”, Hosszu had considered quitting after a disappointing London 2012, admitting to suffering depression.

“But he has turned her into a tiger in the pool”, Hicks said.

“Coming to Rio, I wanted to do the best I can and I did”, said the five-time world champion.

‘Because he’s so emotional and he really wants us to get the goals we set for ourselves, that’s probably why he’s able to be that way, ‘ she added. Now, all she has left is the 200 backstroke and a likely spot on the 4×200 freestyle relay team.

“I can’t believe I won the 100 back”, Hosszu said. At the touch, Plummer clocked out at 52.40 and denied Larkin a medal by just three hundredths of a second.

And she’s not done yet. Hosszu hasn’t commented on the incident, with her last post to social media celebrating her bloody epic win.
