They reiterated a call for the public’s help, urging anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area Sunday afternoon to call them. “There are also major non-similarities to that case”, NYPD deputy chief Michael Kemper, who is investigating Vetrano’s murder, said of the Vanessa Marcotte investigation on Monday night.

The district attorney’s office has asked anyone with information relevant to the investigation to call the Massachusetts State Police tip line at 508-453-7589, the state police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office at 508-453-7589, or the Princeton Police Department at 978-464-2928.

Police sources told ABC News there were signs Marcotte was sexually assaulted and that there were burns on parts of her body.

“We would ask people to pay attention to their surroundings”. “She knew how smart she was”, he added.

She was described as much-loved among her teammates, a passionate volunteer worker, and lover of Boston’s sports.

Police would not comment on the condition of her body but said an autopsy was performed Tuesday morning. She worked at two MA marketing companies before moving to NY.

“We have a awful set of facts, a disgusting circumstance here right now”, Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr said, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

She was in town visiting her parents and was scheduled to return home to New York City later that day. Using a K-9 unit, police and search teams retraced her steps and her body was found in a wooded area just a half a mile from her mother’s home on Sunday night.

Marcotte was a 2011 graduate of Boston University and was an avid runner, according to the Telegram & Gazette. The woman said she is heartbroken and devastated for the Marcottes.

A candlelight vigil will be held for Marcotte this evening.

The phone line is anonymous and investigators will follow up on all tips.

In a statement Monday, Google said it is “deeply shocked and saddened” by Marcotte’s killing. She said the slaying has unnerved the town, known for the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area. Authorities don’t know if the attack was random and are asking the public to stay alert and contact them if they see anything unusual.
