Mass panic as shoppers flee mall after shots are fired

A reported shooting at a mall in Raleigh, NC, sent shoppers and employees fleeing Saturday afternoon.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — News reports say police in Raleigh, North Carolina, are responding to a shooting at a busy mall.

Police have said that no suspects are in custody, nor have they found a gunshot victim yet. The mall in an affluent area of Raleigh was put on lockdown while helicopters buzzed overhead and numerous law enforcement vehicles swarmed the shopping area.

Warring said she heard an additional series of shots.

However, they were not gunshot injuries; she and Wake County EMS Director Jeff Hammerstein says the patients appeared to have suffered minor injuries in the evacuation of the mall. They say nobody has been allowed to enter or exit the mall.

Police were called to the mall at about 2:45pm.

Was about to make a purchase at Crabtree Valley Mall heard shots, ran out to parking lot, got to vehicle, and left. Our crew at the scene said police announced the the crowd shortly after 4:30 p.m. that no one had been shot in the mall. According to a post on the mall’s website, people can pick up items starting Sunday at noon in the Community Room beside HWY 55 near the food court.

‘We heard at least 10 shots, maybe more.

‘We got as low as we could, behind a barricade.’Saw a lot of people running and pushing to get out.

Riggleman said they were inside the video game store for about a half-hour. “On the way out there were bags and shoes and drinks all over the place from people dropping them and running out”.
