LeBron Makes History With New Cavs Deal

The deal isn’t signed yet, but when it is it’ll functionally be a two-year, $64 million contract-the third year is a player option, and it’s a safe bet James will opt out, just as he has in his last couple “1+1” deals. Many suspected he’d leave after one year and eventually form the super team with fellow superstars Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwyane Wade.

“I just want to let you all know I’m re-signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers, my hometown team”, James announced in a video on Uninterrupted, his online multimedia platform.

James announced on Uninterrupted he was re-signing with the Cavs, saying previous year “was magical and inspiring”. “We share his determination to win at the highest level and can’t wait to get back to work, together to defend our title”. His $31 million salary for this season will make him the league’s highest-paid player for the first time in his career, according to ESPN, which first reported the signing. It was James’ 12th consecutive season averaging at least 25.0 points, which is a new National Basketball Association record (previous was 11 straight seasons by Karl Malone from 1987-88 to 1997-98 and Jerry West from 1961-62 to 1971-72).

The situation in IN and Utah are also appealing for Smith since he can still join a playoff team while getting a long-term contract, if the Cavs decide to let him go.

James will be resigning with the Cavaliers shortly and it will not be a one year deal.

LeBron James became an unrestricted free agent (again) at the conclusion of this year’s NBA season, after steering the Cleveland Cavaliers to a historic and somewhat unlikely NBA Championship.

LeBron James has played plenty of games in Miami as a defending world champion, but none in a uniform other than the Heat’s. Over the past two years, James had accepted one-year contracts from the Cavs with player options. Lebron James delivered the city of Cleveland it’s first championship and he definitely deserves every cent of his money. Lastly, let’s get J.R. [Smith] done. “I’m really excited about moving forward with this group of guys and continuing to play in front of the best fans in the world”. Following a breakout performance in the 2015-16 NBA Finals agains the Golden State Warriors, the former New York Knicks star proved to be a crucial member of the Kyrie Irving squad in Game 7.
