According to NPR, third-generation skydiver Luke Aikins successfully completed his “Heaven Sent” stunt after plummeting to the Earth from 25,000 feet.
There was a twist to the stunt show, which didn’t come off as planned when Aikins was ordered by the Screen Actors Guild to wear a parachute to ensure his safety in case of an emergency.
He jumped with three other skydivers, each wearing parachutes.
“Everyone is calling this my ‘coming-out jump, ‘ which is ironic considering I’ve been skydiving since the age of 16”, he said in a press release prior to the jump.
Luke Aikins freefalls during the skydive.
Luke Aikins trained for about two years for the jump.
“I’m nearly levitating, it’s incredible”, he said after Saturday’s jump.
In case that didn’t properly sink in, Aikins fell 7.62km from the sky without a parachute and is perfectly fine. the 42-year-old was falling for a more than two minutes. After months of training, this elite skydiver says he’s ready to leave his chute in the plane when he bails out 25,000 feet over Simi Valley on Saturday.
