Coachella Valley woman first to test positive for Zika virus

Two of the cases in Georgia are pregnant women. Although they were announced today, it’s likely they were included in the health department’s Zika count published last week. There are also 43 women and newborns who did not have symptoms but had a positive or inconclusive laboratory test.

Health officials believe the virus is being transmitted in the Wynwood neighborhood, a trendy arts district in Miami.

Dr. Murthy traveled from Washington, D.C.to meet with the women.

“The chances of transmission is very low, but we want to err on the side of caution”, Webb said. Almost 80 percent of people who catch the virus will show no symptoms, which includes: fever, rash, joint soreness, or redness of the eyes. “Just think of the impact on that child, on that family”.

With the school-year starting, Scott has directed the health department, Florida Department of Education and Florida Board of Governors to partner and provide Zika prevention education to students, parents, educators and district leaders.

President Barack Obama had asked Congress back in February for $1.9 billion to help fight Zika but lawmakers haven’t been able to agree on a spending plan. Some volunteers are going to get a second shot after eight to twelve weeks, and some of them will get the third shot twenty weeks after receiving the first shot.

But schools in Palm Beach County will pass on the state’s offer. If using sunscreen and insect repellent, apply sunscreen first and then the repellent.

“This is of interest to us, recognizing that we have a number of pregnant women who are suspected as having Zika”. The health department has also advised people who have traveled to Wynwood since 15 June to put off getting pregnant for a while.

“We will continue working closely with our federal, state and local partners to ensure consistent reporting of potential cases and unity of effort in reducing the virus’ impact on local communities”, the defense official said.
