A six year-old child is reported to be among those attacked by the man, who police revealed is a Swiss citizen with a “typical Swiss name”.
A young man attacked several passengers on a train near the northern Swiss city of St. Gallen on Saturday afternoon, injuring at least six people, local media and police source said.
Three adults, two teenagers and a child aged six were hurt, according to a police statement. No further details about the operation have been disclosed.
The seven injured people include the attacker, and none of the injured are fit to be questioned at the moment, according to the police. All survived. Police shot and killed the attacker.
The attack occurred shortly before the train reached the station Salez, near the border to Lichtenstein.
No motive has yet been ascribed to the attack, which police continue to investigate; a criminal investigation has been opened, police said.
“We still do not know where and why the man boarded the train, and if he knew someone from the passengers”, Krüsi said, according to 20 minuten.
Police spokesman Bruno Metzger said that the assailant poured the liquid on one woman, and that it appeared to have caught fire when it came into contact with oxygen.
St Gallen Police confirmed the attack today.
Police said the train had suffered damages upwards of 100,000 Swiss francs (USD 103,000).

Early reports suggest a man on the train used flammable liquids in the attack in north west Switzerland. In July, there were two attacks by migrants in the southern state of Bavaria – an axe rampage on a train and a suicide bombing.
