Samsung unveils new curved-screen Galaxy Note phone in H2 sales push

Today was the official announcement for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which was unveiled at Samsung’s second Unpacked event of the year earlier this morning. “For those who want to get the most out of their phones big screens are better”.

The Galaxy Note 7’s battery capacity increased to 3,500mAh from 3,000mAh.

That’s why the new Note 7, which was announced Tuesday, looks a lot like Samsung’s previous plus-sized smartphones, the Note 5 and S6 Edge+.

The Galaxy Note 7, available in Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx, will arrive on Malaysian shores starting 19th August 2016 and will retail at RM3,199.

The handset comes with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display sporting a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels with 518ppi pixel density as well as an octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Camera-wise, you’ll get a twelve-megapixel rear lens with Optical Image Stabilization, and five megapixels in front.

The Galaxy Note 7 will be available not only in South Korea and the United States but also in most countries. Samsung says that the iris scanner is more secure than a fingerprint scanner, and while I haven’t used one yet, I would tend to agree.

The screen also offers support for Samsung’s new S Pen stylus, which is twice as sensitive to pressure as its predecessor and comes with a slimmer tip for more precise note-taking.

This is the first device with Gorilla Glass 5 screen and has a USB-C charger port – Samsung’s first such device. This will require users to use the “Smart Select” feature through the S Pen stylus.

For the first time in the Galaxy Note series, the new version has an edge feature on both sides of the device that allows it to nicely nestle in the palm of the hand.

The Note 7 RRP is $1599 or less than $59 per month interest free over 24 months on a $59.99 open plan and includes a $200 account credit. The device is also IP68 water and dust resistant which means that the device can be submerged in 5-feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The screen of the new device is curved like the S7 Edge, but is sharper and less sloped.

Something that seems to be borrowed from the Samsung Galaxy S7 models, the Note 7 also becomes the first Note to be waterproofed. “Here in the US, demand has grown more than 200 percent every year since 2012”.
