Fire, Knife Attack on Switzerland Train Leaves 6 Wounded

A 27-year-old man attacked passengers on a train as it was pulling into the station in Salez, Switzerland on Saturday afternoon, injuring seven, including a six-year-old child.

The attacker is a Swiss citizen, according to the police statement.

Among the victims were a 6-year-old child, three women and two men, AP reported.

Six passengers “have been hospitalized with knife and burn injuries.” .

A police spokesman quoted by Reuters said “a terrorism background still seems very, very far-fetched”, adding that the possibility of a crime of passion could not be excluded.

A 34-year-old woman died Sunday from wounds suffered after a man attacked her and four others with a knife and a burning liquid aboard a crowded train in Switzerland.

Police gave no immediate information on the attacker’s possible motive.

The attack occurred shortly before the train reached the station Salez, near the border to Lichtenstein. Dozens of people were on the train at the time of the attack, police said. Some of those wounded were in critical condition.

The stabbing prompted a quick response from the Swiss emergency services, including three rescue helicopters as well as multiple ambulances, doctors, and police units to the scene.

Saint Gallen prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into the attack. He was shot dead by police as he left the train.
