Delta cancels 250 more flights, offers customers travel vouchers
Although the airline was back online late on Monday, the outages were so widespread that it was forced to deal with the knock-on effects a day later.

Other Delta flights at KCI were listed as on time Tuesday with only a few shown as delayed.
Airlines depend on huge, overlapping and complicated systems to operate flights, ticketing, boarding, airport kiosks, websites and mobile phone apps.
Frustrated travelers are still facing long lines and severe delays as Delta has cancelled hundreds more flights Tuesday.
According to Reuters, a faulty switchgear in the airline’s operations center within Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport was the cause of the outage.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian apologized to customers Monday afternoon via a video posted to the carrier’s website. Passengers who have their flights canceled or delayed by more than three hours are entitled to a $200 travel voucher.
Associated Press reports were used for this story.
For the second day in a row, Delta passengers lugged their suitcases into airports, only to realize their flight was once again, cancelled.
The company relies on the computer system for booking, communications, scheduling crews, and other vital tasks. Delta is waiving certain change fees for customers who were scheduled to travel Monday or Tuesday and want to change their travel plans to later in the week.
Delta says it will continue to investigate the cause.
“We are still operating in recovery mode”, Dave Holtz, senior vice president of operations, said Tuesday.
Delta is investigating why some critical systems and network equipment didn’t switch over to its backup systems following the power loss, the carrier said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the power company told the AP to lay the blame on Delta’s equipment, as no one else in the area experienced an outage.
United Airlines stranded thousands of passengers after a failed attempt to merge its technology systems with Continental Airlines’s during their 2010 merger. Experts said it will be Wednesday, at best, before the schedule can be back to normal.
Once Delta cleared flights to take off, “we boarded and didn’t have any problems”.

“There is always a delay, or weather, or something”, he said.
