Gotham Might Include Harley Quinn & Expand Joker Mythology

We will be seeing proto-versions of some of those characters; we’ll see a proto-Killer Croc version. It would be a ton of fun to watch the show incorporate new characters, so hopefully the show runs long enough to allow the producers to flesh out the stories they want to tell. The executive producers and numerous cast members were on hand at the TCAs this week to discuss what’s coming on the show in season three, and the EPs dropped the news there that if the show continues, we could see those characters down the line. Representing Gotham were producers John Stephens and Ken Woodruff along with select cast.

Given that there are only a few female baddies on the show who fit that description, and Barbara has been particularly Joker-esque since she offed her parents in season 1, spent some time in Arkham Asylum over the hiatus, and started hanging out with the Galavans in season 2, it certainly seems likely that Jim’s ex-fiance will be taking up the Harley Quinn mantle in Gotham season 3.

For the proto-Killer Croc, Stephens teased that it’s not necessarily the character from the film, but heading in that direction. “We really imagined developing the myth of the Joker at the same time we’re developing the myth of Batman”, Stephens said.

Solomon Grundy is a zombie, so one can begin to imagine how unusual and Indian Hill lets Gotham imagine a Solomon Grundy. “You’re really going to see how the villains have taken up residence in the city”, Stephens said. It’s so we can stretch him over multiple seasons. “In the course of this year, we’re going to see how the cult of the Joker… is going to extend and deepen and change”. “That mystery of how the creation of Solomon Grundy actually happens will be revealed when we get deeper into the Court of Owls at the end of Season [3]”. One of the more recent and major examples is the character of Jerome who was introduced in during the first season before eventually becoming a younger version of The Joker in all but name. “We have Will Smith’s wife on the show, which is something”, Stephens joked.
