The Latest on Ferguson: Crowd thins along West Florissant Avenue; police say
Earlier in the day, approximately 50 protesters shut down Interstate 70, a busy four-lane highway, and multiple arrests were made. Police never deployed smoke or tear gas, though they were at times pelted with water bottles and rocks. Schellman says there were no similar incidents Tuesday.

Police arrested almost two dozen people in Ferguson during a protest marking the anniversary of the fatal shooting of an unarmed 18-year-old African-American by a white police officer, although there was no repeat of the violence that scarred weekend demonstrations.
The group’s membership co-ordinator referred an inquiry to founder Stewart Rhodes, who studied constitutional law at Yale University.
St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger announced late Wednesday morning that the state of emergency in Ferguson will be in effect for at least another 24 hours.
Police yesterday released a 13-second clip of security-camera footage from a West Florissant Avenue insurance office.
Authorities first indicated that a quiet Tuesday night could lead them to lift the state of emergency that has been in place since Monday.
The protesters chanted, beat drums and carried signs.
On Monday night, the police presence was far greater. At about 8 p.m., the two men were detained and cited, according to Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago police spokeswoman. Brown was fatally shot August. 9, 2014.
Surveillance video has been released showing suspect Tyrone Harris, who was critically wounded after being shot by police, minutes before he fired a gun at plainclothes officers, police said.
The events had largely been peaceful until Sunday night, when gunfire erupted and 18-year-old Tyrone Harris Jr. was shot by officers after they say he fired into an unmarked police van. On Monday, 57 people were arrested for passing barricades that blocked a federal court in St. Louis.
CTV’s Los Angeles Bureau Chief Tom Walters is facing a charge of interfering with a police officer, his employer reported Tuesday. Louis County police chief Jon Belmar has been trying to maintain a state of calm between the force and the protesters.
St. Louis County Police said: “The video shows Harris grab a handgun out of his waistband once shots are fired during the protest in the West Florissant corridor”. Karriman said the group stepped in only after Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declined to summon the National Guard in the aftermath of the grand-jury decision.
Belmar plans to ask county prosecutor Bob McCulloch about the legality of the group’s armed patrols.
By Tuesday afternoon there were no major rallies in the St Louis area, and there was a lighter police presence on the streets of Ferguson. By 1am, the crowd and police were heading home. Police did not take an action, and soon after the rock throwing stopped.
Protests also spilled outside of Ferguson earlier Monday.
