Officer shot in gunfire exchange; 2 arrested

The Latest on Marietta police officer shot in a gunfire exchange with suspects.

Officials told 11Alive News crews on the scene that officers responded to the Gallery Apartments on Franklin Gateway around 4:30 a.m.to reports of a vehicle break-in. Marietta Police said all three responding officers returned fire, striking one of the suspects. The officers found two people in a vehicle, at least one of whom opened fire on the officers, Wallace said. One of those suspects fired at the officers, and one of the officers was hit.

One neighbor told Channel 2 Action News he heard about 10 gun shots in rapid fire.

Wallace said all three officers will be placed on administrative leave per policy standards. The injured officer and the injured suspect were taken to the hospital.

Police say two men were arrested after exchanging gunfire with officers that left one wounded outside an apartment in suburban Atlanta. Both were juveniles. Their names, and the identity of the shot officer, have not been released.
