The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office announced today its participation in the national and statewide 2016 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement mobilization occurring August 12 through September 5. High-visibility enforcement such as the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign reduces alcohol-impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent.

“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” is a national campaign created to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through high-visibility enforcement backed up by public educational efforts including national radio and television advertisements, posters, banners and mobile video display signs.
“Many people believe that after a few drinks they’re still safe to drive”, said Gary Poedubicky, acting director of the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety. It is an annual enforcement supported by federal funding. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) says there were 4,828 alcohol-impaired collisions in Indiana previous year resulting in 92 fatalities. The release says officers from 8 agencies in Steuben and Dekalb Counties will work overtime to make safety patrols and checkpoints. “We hope the campaign will serve as a reminder that those who choose to drink should never get behind the wheel”, Officer Richmond said. “We will be out in full patrol, and chances are if you drive impaired, we will pull you over”.
