“He was also armed with at least one knife”.

Police have said that, as yet, there is no indication of a political or terrorist motive for the attack.

According to a BBC report, a total of seven individuals were wounded in the attack with four others including the suspect now in critical condition.

Among the victims were a 6-year-old child, three women and two men, AP reported.

Five people were stabbed or suffered burns during the attack, which occurred as the train neared Salez station in St Gallen. “This was not directed concretely at one person”, he said, adding that it remained unclear whether the attacker knew any of his victims. Metzger said the attacker, who is not of immigrant origin and does not have a criminal record.
