Fires and Protests Erupt In Milwaukee After Yet Another Police Shooting

The injury happened Saturday night as officers are dealing with unrest on the city’s north side following a man’s fatal shooting by police hours earlier. One police officer was reportedly hospitalized with injuries after a brick was thrown into his squad auto. The police made three arrests on unspecified charges during the mayhem, during which crowds of at least 200 people flooded the streets. After being pulled over, two individuals fled from the vehicle, prompting the officer – a 24-year-old with six years of experience – to give chase, according to ABC affiliate WISN.

The Milwaukee Mayor called for parents to get their kids home around midnight, indicating the still active protestors.

The victim of the shooting has not been identified, nor was the officer involved, though police did confirm that he is a 24-year-old man who has been with the department for three years.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says the north side is calming after violence in the wake of a police shooting that left one man dead.

The unrest is the latest in a series of disturbances to hit USA cities, including Baton Rouge, Dallas, and Ferguson, Missouri, following fatal police shootings. When the suspects stopped, they ran from the vehicle. “Please participate in restoring order to these neighborhoods”. “I want to make sure that we don’t lose any police officers in this community either”. At least four businesses were burned down in the protests that stretched into Sunday morning, leading Gov. Scott Walker to activate National Guard troops in case violence persists. Fires were also started at multiple businesses, including a bank, a beauty supply company and an O’Reilly Auto Parts stores, according to WISN.

Police had “shown an wonderful amount of restraint”, Barrett said.

Angry protests, including several fires, have erupted in Milwaukee, Wisconson after another police shooting of a citizen in broad daylight.

A Milwaukee journal Sentinel reporter also was shoved to the ground and punched. Barrett said the man was hit twice, in the chest and arm.

The area where the violent protests took place is no stranger to violence.

The gun shots were all apparently fired into the air. One of the officers shot one of the men, who was holding a handgun at the time. Police said the officer was being treated at a hospital. Neither the race of the suspect or officer were disclosed by police.

Milwaukee Police Assistant Chief Bill Jessup told the media on Saturday evening that the 23-year-old man shot earlier in the day had a lengthy police record.

“Officers are out here taking risk on behalf of the community and making split seconds decisions”. “This community of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has become the worst place to live for African Americans in the entire country”. “The black people of Milwaukee are exhausted, they are exhausted of living under this oppression, this is their life”. The weapon that the man was carrying as he gave chase was reportedly a stolen semiautomatic handgun obtained in a March robbery 20 miles away in Waukesha.
