Wildfire in Northern California doubles in size

A wildfire racing through dry vegetation in northern California has destroyed four homes and forced more than 1,000 people to evacuate, fire officials said on Sunday.

“The Red Cross shelter provides immediate needs of those evacuated, including a safe place to stay, food (meals, snacks), water, health services, emotional support, information, and other support resources”.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department has ordered the mandatory evacuations of Lower Lake residents living in Cantwell Ranch Road, Riata Road, Teklas Road Hale, Daly Hill, Teklas, Morgan Valley Road, Spruce Grove Road, Noble Ranch Road, Ellen Springs, Stahle Road and Morgan Valley Road.

Cal Fire spokeswoman Suzie Blankenship said the fire was creating its own weather pattern and shifted direction Sunday afternoon into populated areas.

Over 1,300 residents are also experiencing power outage after authorities requested Pacific Gas and Electric to shut down the power in the affected area.

More evacuation orders have been issued as the wildfire grows in Northern California, threat.

In Lake County, the fire threatened the houses of an additional 3,000 people in Hidden Valley Lake, a subdivision south of the blaze.

Danielle Colbeck, 36, saw the fire from her home off Big Bear Road near Highway 29 and made the decision to leave.

Running Deer area residents from Gage Irving south to Cow Camp Road and east to Lake Nacimiento are asked to move to the Safe Zone at High Meadows at Bobcat Lane. She told the Press Democrat newspaper in Santa Rosa (http://bit.ly/2buWHAj ) that she loaded her vehicle with her two cats and important papers and headed to a friend’s house.

There is no known cause for the fire at this time.

The fire has burned at least 1 square mile, with full containment expected Sunday, Cal Fire Chief Tom McEwen told KSBY-TV.

The Chimney Fire, burning near Nacimiento Lake, has scorched 1,450 acres as of 8:15 a.m. this morning – after a little more than 16 hours since it broke near the intersection of Chimney Rock Road and Nacimiento Lake Drive.

Fire officials say evacuations were ordered in the Copsey Creek subdivision, north of Morgan Valley Road, Sunday afternoon.

The blaze, which started Saturday afternoon, is burning in the same area that was hit a year ago by three wildfires that destroyed more than 1,300 homes and killed four people.

The fire has burned about 350 acres so far.

It’s largely burning out of control in an area that was evacuated during a devastating wildfire past year after officials revised down the extent to which they’ve contained it.
