Bubba Watson holes out for eagle in golf’s Round 2

All three played when winds picked up after the day broken calm, but others who faced the worst of the gusts turned in solid scores, including Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, who shot 66 to share second with Canadian Graham DeLaet, and Great Britain’s Justin Rose, who made the first hole-in-one in Olympic history en route to a 67.

Because Matt Kuchar looked dazed after shooting an Olympic golf final round 63, securing a bronze medal for the United States and tying the low round in the brief history of golf in the Games.

“No matter what happens this week, it’s the greatest week of my life”, two-time major champion Martin Kaymer said. I wouldn’t want to get in a fight with it, that’s for sure. It was wonderful watching these girls I’m going to say girls, I’m going to say I’m older than them.

The biggest thrill for so many has been hanging around so many Olympians.

Brazilian Adilson da Silva will hit the opening tee shot at 5:30 a.m. Milwaukee time Thursday.

Watson begins Olympic competition on Thursday, set to tee off at 9:14 a.m. Pensacola time. It didn’t get much better from there.

“Still a lot of golf to be played”.

Chandler Egan won silver and Burt McKinnie and Francis Newton tied for bronze in the Olympic Games in St. Louis, the last time golf was on the Olympic program.

As he exited the stage toward the scoring area, Kuchar shook hands with Peter Dawson, the IGF official who worked for years on the Olympic movement, before being met with a kiss and hug from wife Sybi.

Golf, someone said, was a good walk spoiled. Fraser ran off four straight birdies on the front nine, and finished with two birdies in the last three holes. A surprise victor from a developing golf nation like Li Haotong of China or Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand? A dominant performance like Stenson at Royal Troon?

One unknown remains the size of the gallery.

“It’s just kind of one of those things, being an outdoor sport, you have three things you have to do, you have to wear sunscreen, you have to wear bug spray and you have to hydrate”.

The IOC voted in 2009 to re-introduce the sport to the games after more than a century away, guaranteeing its spot for both this year’s Olympics and also for Tokyo in 2020. The IGF said about 58 percent of the tickets have been sold, with Sunday a sellout of 12,000. I didn’t get into golf to get other people into the game.

One thing to say for Reed, though: If he’s comfortable with the black hat, he’s even more comfortable wearing the red, white and blue.

“I remember when I was little watching the Olympics and wishing that I had the chance to go and play for a gold medal”, Reed told reporters.

As a professional golfer, Patrick Reed likes to wear red on Sunday like Tiger Woods and has become accustomed to wearing the black hat every day.

“If you’re starting a family or have a young family, it’s obviously quite hard and not a good situation to be in”.

“I have had a very warm welcome from fellow US athletes and other athletes around the village, nearly thanking me for being here”, Fowler said. Still to be determined is how it feels with a gold medal – any medal – on the line.

“I’m probably asked the most about Jordan and Rory”, Fowler said.

Challenges on the course are many and varied
