This story has surfaced (pardon the pun) a few days after an off-duty Florida policeman found £12 million pounds worth of cocaine wrapped up in a rubbish bag while fishing in the gulf of mexico.
A picture released by officers shows the bar, which is 6cm long, has several markings including references to its weight and fineness.
It appears to be the work of Degussa Feingold, a company that has been manufacturing gold bars for around 150 years now, and is estimated to be worth around €16,000 ($18,000).
