“It was kind of a last-minute pack”, she said. “If I’m going to go hard-core U.S., it’s going to be at the Olympics.’ So I pulled them out for the match today”.

His opponent Kei Nishikori captured Japan’s first medal in tennis with a 6-2, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3 win.
